Gambling and TAB Venue Policy Consultation
Overview
Marlborough District Council (Council) is seeking feedback on proposed changes to its Gambling Venue Policy.
Under the Gambling Act 2003 and the Racing Industry Act 2020, Council is required to review both policies every three years.
The Acts allow Territorial Authorities to grant consents for class 4 gambling venues (pokie machines) and standalone racing (TAB) venues. They also require each Territorial Authority to adopt a policy that guides whether Class 4 and TAB venues may be established in the district, where they may be located, and how many venues and machines are permitted.
The current policy has been reviewed and areas for clarification have been identified to remove ambiguity or inconsistency in interpretation. No substantive changes are proposed.
The special consultative procedure provides the public with an opportunity to make submissions and provide feedback on the proposed policy changes. Once the submission period closes, hearings will be held for submitters who indicate they wish to be heard in support of their submission.
This Statement of Proposal has been prepared in accordance with section 83 of the Local Government Act 2002.
Please ensure that you read the Statement of Proposal before making your submission.
Your feedback on the proposed policy is now invited, with the submission period open until 5pm on Monday 29 June 2026.
Why your views matter
Your feedback helps ensure the Policy reflects the views and expectations of both the community and key stakeholders.
